What customers say?

“ Nice little local chippy, was greated by a friendly chap behind the counter, we was the only ones there and our food was cooked fresh. I found the prices very reasonable and was quite surprised as I expected it to be more with it being in the city. Great variety loads to chose from, the salt and pepper chicken was delicious ”

“ They’ve got a sign saying they’re award winning and to be honest, I can see why! I had a small fish and chips with mushy peas, and my partner had a small chips and gravy. He did ask for a fish cake but there wasn’t any available. The fish, chips, and peas portion was a really good size, I couldn’t eat all of it so my partner had my remaining chips. The mushy peas were REALLY thick, almost a solid, and with the most amazing flavour - can tell these aren’t soggy peas from an oversized can! Absolutely yummy. The chips didn’t feel greasy at all, but the small fish definitely had an oil layer that it left on the top of the pea pot. It still tasted delicious though, just made the pot a bit harder to open and meant some of the batter slid off (see picture). The only negative I would say is there’s no vegetarian option other than ‘just chips/chip roll’, but if you go in knowing this you won’t be disappointed. ”

“ Served us tasty fish suppers. The cafe section is quite hidden behind the take-away shop, down a side street (Ebor Street). We assumed the menu would be much the same and went in intent upon cod & chips. We nearly turned about when we saw the menu was full of sharing plates and burgers, but on asking we found we could actually get fish & chips, so we did, and very nice it was, and keenly priced at £10 each for substantial dinners. ”

“ Been to far too many chippys in my time but can confidently reccomend this one. Went last night, the guy at the till was very helpful and nice, the chips were lovely and reasonably priced. The curry sauce I had was very nice and even the bread muffin was great. Girlfriend said she'd definitely have the sausage and fish she had again. Thanks very much! ”

“ We had haddock and chips, mushy peas, curry sauce, tartar sauce. It was so nice that we came back 2 days later and ordered the same. The fish is only lightly battered which tasted terrific and all the sides were delicious! Kelly is a brill cook and the lady who served us was so friendly and helpful - it was the afternoon of Saturday the 25th of January so that should pinpoint who was shifted then. Well done ladies and thank you, we will be back :-) ”

“ Popped in on a sunny June afternoon. Ordered fish & chips, scampi & small chips & curry sauce. Food was excellent, fish was flaky & tender with a light crispy batter. Lots of scampi & the chips were crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle. Curry sauce was really nice & reminded us of old style chip shop curry without raisins which was nice! Staff were excellent, fussed over our dog & brought some water for her & gave her a sausage to take home as a treat. Top chippy, great food & staff. Good portion sizes & value for money….Highly recommended. Thanks ”

“ Great fish and chips, friendly, busy service. Good packaging - the jumbo haddock was perfectly cooked and stayed crispy after a 10 minute walk home. Salt and pepper squid good too. "Chinese" curry sauce got too thick quite quickly while eating, but they do have two alternative curry sauce types which we'd try next time! ”

“ Very nice haddock, chips and fish shop curry. The only negative (no fault of the shop) was the exorbitant price for the public car park. Just under £5 for up to 1 hour and I was there for less than 10 mins. This must affect local trade in the area. ”
